Jimmy can I just add to Rob's list that you should also investigate tools
that would assist with your testing as if you are developing from scratch,
as I would think you would be doing a lot of repetitive testing and anything
that makes life easier should be welcome.

I admit to being a vendor of such a tool and would welcome the opportunity
to discuss this off-list.

As to whether you should choose Lansa or Plex I would suggest you get both
companies to suggest why they are better and play them off against each
other and also who have similar types of organisations such as yours as
customers.

Best of luck

Jimmy,

Enjoy the journey.

There are a whole plethora of tools out there. However, different tools
for different jobs. I am not familiar with either of the tools, nor what
job they are supposed to solve.

Other jobs you may want to consider tools for are:

- Change Management
- High Availability
- Programming productivity
- Database manipulation
- Reporting
- Web interfacing

I don't know if this will help you:

I searched the archives at:
http://archive.midrange.com/
and found 273 hits for lansa and 17 hits for plex. Most of the hits for
plex had lansa in the title so maybe there is some good comparison?

We are converting from mainframe to iSeries. We are evaluating
development
tools. We have narrowed it down to Lansa and CA's advantage Plex. I was
wondering about some real users opions of the products. Do more prefer
Plex
or Lansa? Maybe some pros and cons for both.

Thanks for your help!!!
