We use Messenger Plus (http://www.bytware.com/). (Not a vendor, just a happy
customer.) It's probably overkill for just sending messages, but we use it for
all kinds of system monitoring also. It supports alpha, numeric, email, TAP,
and other paging protocols. It can also monitor in restricted state...

My cellular providor (AT&T) has a toll-free number to send TAP messages to
cell phones. It works very well, as my cell phone receives SMS and email text
messages.

I'm bringing all this up because several people mentioned emailing to their
cell phones. That's a cool idea, but I had a situation last weekend where
TCP/IP did not come on after a backup. Since MPlus was monitoring in the
background, it was able to send a TAP message to my cell phone, whereas it
could not otherwise email out of the AS/400.

Hopefully your cellular provider in the UK has something similar.

HTH,
Loyd
