That way, no-one has to know the business end is Java. We have a consultant who is scared to death of SQL. So when I write data access procedures for him to use, I just give him the procedure name and he has no idea that it is SQL. The downside to that is if it is not documented somewhere, the next guy will probably wish that you get Herpes because he can't find out what is actually doing the work. CSV won't work here, the user absolutely, positively will not accept anything but an honest-to-god XLS file. And we want to generate and e-mail the XLS file with no user intervention, so the package would need a command interface. I know about SEQUEL, but my boss thinks it's too pricey. I'm working on learning Java, so I once I feel comfortable with it, I suppose I could use HSSF, but I'm going to scare people if I make them call Java programs from RPG.
