Wouldn't it be simpler to just change the Winblows file association for
.CSV to open EXCEL?  Or is that too simplistic?

The company I work for has the same problem of user do not want the file in
.csv format.  The reason is because when they double click on the
attachment it will not automatically open up the file in execl.

Because the file view setting on most users pc is set to open any .dif file
using execl, I created a rpg program to convert the data into DIF format
and e-mail it to the users and they seems to be pretty happy with the
result.

The something missing is: when you want to have it run unattended, maybe
even in batch, and not worry about a PC interface.

  OK, what am I missing here.  Is there some particular reason that you
don't want to use Client Access File Transfer?  I use it to create XLS
files, and it works great.
