Mike,

It's all in the system values.

You can condition (using the QUPSDLYTIM) the system to power down the
system in various ways.  This will essentially be a PWRDWNSYS on your
production server.

Or you can set the QUPSDLYTIM system value to not power down the system
and set the QUPSMSGQ system value with a specific message queue.  Then
you write a program to monitor this queue for the UPS-specific messages
and do what you want.  This would allow you to gracefully end your Domino
server, for instance.

At the URL below is a sample program from IBM which could serve as a
base.  I haven't studied it, but even though it's part of the V5R2
InfoCenter, it is probably appropriate for earlier releases.
