>From an issue with this, (IBM's response) ACTION TAKEN: From the symptoms that you are receiving it appears that there could be a bad e-mail in the QMSF job. You are correct, the msgMCH0601 isn't cool. It normally indicates that you may have been used as an open relay by spammers. Therefore, your SMTP server jobs have many, many undeliverable e-mails. The msgmch0601 indicates that we are processing over a million mail objects and the SMTP server is in recovery trying to match FSO's and MCB's. We have seen this with Spam attacks and also with a recovery after a system failure. To fix this you may want to do a SMTP cold start using the following steps: 1- ENDTCPSVR *SMTP 2- ENDTCPSVR *POP 3- ENDMSF 4- CRTDTAARA DTAARA(QUSRSYS/QTMSCLEAN) TYPE(*CHAR) + LEN(1) VALUE('c') AUT(*ALL) (Note :a 'c' for cold and a 'W' for warm) 5- STRTCPSVR *SMTP 6- STRTCPSVR *POP 7- STRMSF *CLEAR (Note: *CLEAR will delete all non-delivered e-mail still being processed by QMSF, including good e-mail.) . The cold start is documented at the following URL: http://www-912.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.nsf/slkbase then search for doc # 12751331. If you want to see if this is spam e-mail give us a call at 1-800-IBM-SERV and refer to this PMR and we can run some MSF journaling. Also, if you are open relay and you want to restrict open relay search for doc # 26471302 at the URL listed above.
