And I'm not trying to argue, either, Andy.  I'm just as confused as you are.
But if you think about it, how many people using a model 810 *NEED* 1020 CPW
worth of interactive?  Or would possibly use it?  A 1070CPW model 270 could
never go above 50CPW interactive, the 1100CPW 820 could never go above
560CPW interactive.  In both cases, IBM evidently thought that was more than
enough.

What does this all mean?  Hcek if I know.  One question that could be asked
is what is the EFFECTIVE interactive CPW rating for one of these boxes?  Is
it the same as the batch?  If so, then why could you never max out any model
below the 840?

Not only that, but I have no idea what other prices are involved.  I didn't
bother doing a complete review of all the feature prices, such as disk and
memory.  You already know that support is bundled, so your price goes up
there.

So, trying to compare old versions to new versions might not make a lot of
sense (and I think that's part of the strategy, frankly).  The best I can do
is compare current prices and figure out what it means.  If I need roughly
1000 CPW of batch, then I either pay $10K or $78K, based on whether I
web-enable my application.  Double that requirement, to 2000CPW, I have to
jump to the 810, where I now pay either $35K or $230K.

The point is that interactive now is VERY expensive, and there are no
options.  Web-enable, or pay.  And so now a solution like PSC/400 becomes
VERY attractive, because it's certainly going to cost less than the
interactive feature.  Not to mention giving you Internet access and pretty
web screens and all those other benefits.
