If all else fails, call 800.IBM.SERV and get out your AMEX card. jch -----Original Message----- From: Joe Pluta [mailto:joepluta@PlutaBrothers.com] Sent: Friday, January 24, 2003 5:42 PM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: Joe's V5R1 upgrade (was totally unrelated topic) IPL to side A failed, same exact problems. I now have what amounts to no working machine (but I have lots of great backups!). Since I have no tape drive, I have no SAVSYS, so once I'm this corrupted my only option is a scratch install. Okay, before I panic completely and start a scratch install, my next question is fairly simple: how do I know which version of the LIC I have on my machine? The last one that worked was V4R5, but I'm reasonably certain the machine managed to install V5R1. In fact, I think that's the problem. I think I'm running V4R5 code on top of the V5R1 LIC, and the two are so incompatible that it can't even load PTFs now. What I'd like is step by step instructions to install the V5R1 LIC, then the V5R1 operating system and licensed programs. However, it seems that that's not really a possibility. Instead, the installation documents "...assume that the V5R1M0 release of the Licensed Internal Code is installed...". Nice, but how can we tell? It says if you don't know, call your service representative. Well, since I don't have one, that makes it quite difficult. Suggestions?
