Backing up to DVD

Greetings,

Albert had asked about backups to CD.  I'm also interested in backing up
to the DVD RAM drive in my new 810 iSeries.  What does it take, how fast
is it, what is the downside?  Where is the documentation?  I also have
some OLD OLD tapes that I need to put on a more permanent media, and was
wondering about copying from tapes (3490 E and 9348 1/2 inch reels) to the
DVD drive. Any experience - good or bad - would be helpful.
