Interesting, Raul. I just tried this also in CL, a variable name can be used in CALL, as follows

*************************
pgm

dcl &pgm *char 10

chgvar &pgm 'DFTTEST'
call &pgm
call "DFTTEST"

endpgm
*************************

Notice the full quotes around the program name. But single quotes, as in

call 'DFTTEST'

do not work.

If the nema of the object that will be needed dependns on data, or in the result of a calculation, it will be hard to automate the checking. Of course, when you call a program whose name is the result of a calculation, you must CHKOBJ before calling.
