Let me put it this way - in the past 3 years I've seen 30+ 8.58Gb 10k RPM
drives fail (and heard many many worse stories than the ones I have).  It
wouldn't surprise me.  Quality has improved dramatically, either through
better drives or more accepting microcode parms.

Do let us know what it was.  I'm no CE, and I can't examine the machine, but
I still have my bet on the new drive being bad, assuming that all procedures
and processes are being completed in the correct fashion, which is how it
sounds so far.

Did the box it came in say "servicable used part"?

system up yet and maybe not until tomorrow.

Justin:  Do you mean by saying "I'd put my money....", that the old disk and
the new one are both bad?
