I used to think the 25gb tapes were great. We had someone go from 45
minutes to do a SAVSYS to 4. However, we are getting a load of write
errors. On the brand new tape drive from yesterday, (after running a
cleaning tape through it six times).
Volume ---Temporary Errors--- --------K Bytes--------
ID Read Write Read Written
1FRI12 0 9383 11 13895287

We don't seem to get any errors on our 3590's or 3581's. Perhaps IBM
follows the philosophy of "Money talks - (expletive deleted) walks."

IBM is coming in again today to replace the drive. And we will get them
here on a daily basis if need be until they get the (expletive deleted)
working.

LOL - ME use 25GB tapes ?? I WISH Rob... I've stuck with that 9427-210
8mm. It just had the main tape drive/unit in it replaced yesterday. This
is the 3rd or 4th time in the last year or so...

Dave Weber from IBM replaced the tape drive this morning.

Since then we've done 4 INZTAP's to it. 3 were CLEAR(*NO) and averaged
5
write errors. 1 was a CLEAR(*YES) and got 12 write errors. We expect
zero. After all, our 3590 and 3581's write to several tapes and never
experienced a write error this weekend.
Yet another new tape drive is on order for tomorrow.

Chuck, do you use 25gb tapes?
If you do a PRTERRLOG TYPE(*VOLSTAT) VOLTYPE(6386) do you find a lot of
write errors?
What tapes can you write to? Scott said he can write to 2gb tapes, but
I
can't even INZTAP a 2gb tape in that drive.
