Job control and performance tuning is about as powerful as you can get. AS/400 backup/restore features are stronger than just about anybody else. Debugging on the AS/400, especially through multiple languages, is incredible. Failure rate is negligible (with the exception of those d*mned 8GB drives). One operator can support a room full of machines. Multiple language support is unparalleled. Object security is the most flexible model available. Auditing is unmatched. While the AS/400 has been adopting some of the better features of other systems, these core strengths still exist, and my POINT is that no other platform has even come close to the AS/400 in these areas. No other platform is changing and evolving like the AS/400. > IBM has done a very good job of > bringing iSeries up to the level of other systems on the market. And yet, while no other platform can match the AS/400, IBM does turn around and match the competition. They've not only incorporated other technologies, but in many cases gone them one better. No other platform allows as easy a call from a HLL to Java. Apache on the AS/400 is by all accounts better than on any platform. Even Windows cards get rebooted <grin>. So what they've done is incorporate all those other technologies without sacrificing any part of their legacy systems. This is what I meant by the AS/400 evolving more rapidly than any other platform. Joe
