Alan,

And I said that in my reply. But even if they do not allow you to change or
write code on the AS400 or PC. Will they let them read technical books, do
self study? Has he looked at every option on the CHGMSGQ/DSPMSGQ read the
help, understand what each option does? Has he looked at the options and
command keys on WRKACTJOB does he know about WRKSYSACT. I have a feeling he
has not. Otherwise he would use WRKSYSACT if he has it and put the message
queues in break mode. Has he done an F4 and looked at the commands. When I
was an S/34 operator I read the RPG reference and run book, cover to cover.
Talk about boring, but it helped my career more then playing Ring Toss with
the write protect rings from the tapes on the S/38. My point is you have to
work with your boss and use what is at your disposal to improve yourself.
And I understand some companies will be more flexible then others.

Hope you find a job.

Again, I digress. The point I'm trying to make is that even though you
make some excellent suggestions, we do not know what the circumstances are
for Troy.

I understand you may not have access to a PC, but you have to look at what
you do have access to and what your company will allow you to do and see
how you can use that to learn.
