You got me. :) Actually, what they were doing is printing the W2's out and handing them to their accountant to retype. There were a whole lot of irritating reasons they decided to update and that was one of them. Before we started I'd asked them to look at PC-based programs like Quickbooks and to talk with someone about ADP.
