What he's probably seeing is the size of the PDF documents with fonts embedded. On V5R2 of InfoPrint server there's an option to not include the fonts, which greatly reduces the file size. iSeries Access for Web (part of iSeries Access - the renamed Client Access) can also create PDF output without a need for InfoPrint server - however it creates images, unlike the fully searchable text format PDF that InfoPrint Server creates. ...Neil "Reeve Fritchman" <reeve@ltl400.com> To: <midrange-l@midrange.com> cc: Subject: RE: Native PDF on the AS/400? I've chatted with a business partner friend of mine ("Dave") and he's not impressed with InfoPrint V5R2; he claims the PDF documents are grossly oversized compared to the documents created by the Gumbo Software product (he was doing an informal benchmark). I don't know if it's Dave's InfoPrint configuration, a software problem, or a "Dave" problem; he's pretty sharp. It wouldn't be the first time IBM (well, any software developer) has provided bloatware... -reeve -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Andy Nolen-Parkhouse Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 12:06 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: RE: Native PDF on the AS/400? Tony, You may be referring to the InfoPrint Server product, which is an IBM Software package for the iSeries. It became available in V5R1 I believe. There are some manuals available in the supplemental manuals section of the InfoCenter for both V5R1 and V5R2. Yes, it will generate PDF output and place it in the IFS if that's what you want. It is, I believe, an additional-cost package, not a part of the base OS. See the page below for the InfoPrint V5R2 Planning manual and User's Guide. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r2/ic2924/books/allbooks.htm Regards, Andy Nolen-Parkhouse > -----Original Message----- > From: midrange-l-admin@midrange.com [mailto:midrange-l-admin@midrange.com] > On Behalf Of William A.(Tony) Corbett > Sent: Thursday, October 17, 2002 11:48 AM > To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange. com > Subject: Native PDF on the AS/400? > > Hi, > Is anyone using the native PDF output support on the AS/400 (V5R2) yet? > What licensed programs do I need to be able to use this?
