SEU was designed in the age of monochrome terminals with no offline
processing capabilities. When PC's, smart workstations, and affordable
color monitors were introduced SEU did not suddenly develop bugs. Nor did
SEU develop bugs when alternative products introduced functionality beyond
SEU's design. A failure to enhance the design to keep up with the times is
not a bug.

You don't have to be an SEU bigot to identify incorrect use of the word
"bug".

It's like saying that my car is broken because it has crank windows instead
of power windows.

Joe,

The list is not quite the biblical 7 x 70 but a very small representative
sample of SEU bugs include:
- It doesn't automatically color your source based on the type of the line
and the keywords included on the line
- I can't work offline from the host
...

Yes you can recover. It's just done differently.

I guess I'm clueless here. I use both SEU and CODE/400, but if you had to
classify me, I'd be more towards the SEU end of the spectrum. And while
I've created thousands of source members with SEU, I must not be a power
user because I can't remember the last time I saw an SEU bug. And I love
the PDM interface.

One relevant issue: if I'm in CODE/400 in one window and SEU in another,
and
my PC crashes, I'm far more likely to be able to recover my changes with
SEU
than with CODE. Personal experience of course, but I still think SEU is a
really productive interface.

Joe
