I've been good up until now and stayed out of this but .......

Not correct.  You _do_ have to have connected at some time in order to cache
the file definitions, but once that is done there is no connection needed.
Trust me - I did _not_ have an iSeries plugged into the seat power outlet
when I was using Verifier when I flew home on American Airlines the other
week <grin>.

Personally I could not survive without CODE and the Verifier.  If I don't
have a cached file description I cobble together a DS for the missing record
definitions and then code everything except the I/O ops.  Works just fine -
x-refs and all.
