Or as a simpler solution(s):
1) tiny RPG III program, testing to see if update is
        necessary before update is performed to minimize io
2) 2 linked tables drag and drop in Access, let the jet engine
        handle the link and update

Rob since you have the most recent version, have they considered
doing this type of update in the database navigator yet?
