The 3581 H17 is LTO, not 8MM, right? It seems to me that what IBM brought to the LTO joint-venture was basically their 3590 technology. -Jim -----Original Message----- From: Mike Shaw [mailto:mhshaw@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 11:10 AM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: Question on Tape Drive Replacement Chuck, Take a look at IBM's 3581 H17. We have one attached to a Model 830 4-Way and it really rips. I am backing up 248 GB in a full system backup in 2 Hours, 30 Minutes. It's a one cartridge backup! I as you had 3590's in a previous life and I am finding the performance of the 3581 to very close to the 3590 in terms of speed. You can buy multiple 3581's for the cost of one 3590. The only thing I do not like about 3581 is the cartridges. They are pretty flimsy compared to 3590. I make sure all my media going offsite are in individual plastic containers inside the lock box. <HTH> Regards, Mike Shaw ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck Lewis" <clewis@iquest.net> To: "Midrange-L" <midrange-l@midrange.com> Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 8:42 AM Subject: Question on Tape Drive Replacement > Hi Folks, > > We have HAD it with our IBM 9427-210 Cartridge Tape Unit.
