IBM has done something about this.

They've published, long in advance, when an OS is going to be non
supported, what OS upgrades to what, and when you can no longer purchase a
particular OS level.

Some people will never be satisfied.

And how would they do that Al (V4R3 to V4R5) since it IS no longer
available
? :-) No offense intended. I've been wondering if (and discussing this
with
others) this last week - is IBM going to do something about this ? You
would
THINK if folks are willing to make the move like that, something could be
worked out to cut a release of V4R5 ? Of course on the other side, you are
probably on a system that has all kinds of hardware that isn't supported
at
V5Rx...

You cannot go from V4R3 to V5R1 (without phenomenal pain).  You must go
from V4R3 to V4R4 or V4R5 (which of course is no longer available from
IBM), and then go from wherever to V5R1.

Might I suggest that you skip V5R1.  Go from V4R3 to V4R5, and then from
V4R5 to V5R2.  V5R2 is an exceptionally stable release, and V5R1 kinda
@#$%ed.  As you have to do a two step move, do it that way.
