Hi Vern, I had a similar problem which ended up being the subject of much discussion about the OS/400 console. I my case I was unable to resolve the problem in the time I was prepared to give it. I resorted to (and still use) a 'Dumb' twinax terminal for a console - vastly superior to anything else IBM has come up with. The messages I received were much the same as the ones you outline below, but in my case I could get a connection and I was able to use Ops Console. The problem I had was that it wasn't stable - It would crash in the middle of a SAVSYS, or a Cum PTF install, or some other important function. I would have considerable dificultly re-establishing the connection to the system, which is not a pleasant situation when the system is in restricted state. Sometimes it was necessary to force power off, do a normal IPL, then start the process all over again and hope it doesn't crash a second time. One can go round and round in circles here. The message I am trying to put over, though rather negative, is - even if you do get it working it might not be reliable. You might be better to consider alternatives.
