I would assume so. The battery protects the write cache on the drive
controllers on an iSeries just like it does on a PC. If main power goes down
the drive controller hangs onto its write cache until power is restored and
the controller can push that data onto the drive. Anyone who has write
caching turned on w/o battery backup cache is asking for problems. The
operating system thinks the data has been written to disk, but in reality it
hasn't.
