RE: Replacing the cache memory battery on the AS/400 - a warning

I am curious to know technically how this works. The battery in the as400 is
the same as cmos battery of a pc ?  Shirley the battery does not power the
entire main store memory of the system while it is powered down.  And maybe
the refered to cache memory is the memory in the disk controllers ?  Could
the cmos of the as400 retain the status of the last power off of the system
?  And when that cmos is wiped out there will be no force power off recovery
from the bubble memory of the disk cache during the next ipl ?

As I understand it, the battery keeps the cache memory active. Normally, if
the AS/400 powers down abnormally, when you power it back up the data can be
retrieved from this memory. However, when the CE removed the battery it
wiped out the memory.

        I would like to know more about this.  The battery keeps main store
memory
        charged after a power down ?   Maybe the system was unpluged from
the wall
        and that is why the main store memory was erased ??
