Ken, Loading Linux is a good alternative. The key would be to not involve your production system in providing the firewall services. Some might even question having your firewall in an LPAR, the isolation between the firewall and your production systems is that important. Having an OS/400-based firewall solution just doesn't seem feasible. I can't imagine buying an iSeries just to use it as a firewall. It would be a high expense for a platform which can currently run very well on commodity hardware.
