Uninformed answer:  In the Model 6xx/V4R2 timeframe, yes.  It maybe
standard now.  IBM did it as a "me too" thing, and now no one is using it,
IMHO.  The bigger problem for now, is the ratio of arms to DASD quantity on
smaller systems.  I suspect that IBM will make compression standard, if not
already.  Would anyone else care to correct me.

You're probably right - the parameter is for compression recovery action, I
see.

Compression is a hardware thing?
