We have to retrieve and send data to a remote site over the Internet.

Currently we use FTP to send data to another site but FTP isn't that secure
so we are looking at other ways.

I remember seeing something about secure FTP software, maybe that is a
better solution.

What are you trying to accomplish? I don't believe the 400 itself can be a
client, but if you can get the client on your LAN then you could establish a
route through that machine and over the VPN. We do the latter all the time,
works great.
