The 400 has NEVER liked unplugging cables while it is running... Depending on the machine, you might get it to work, but often it causes a failure that can only be recovered by IPL... Always take the machine down to make cable switch... (as you now know) A interesting twist on that, is that, it doesn't mind if you plug in a new cable(it will auto-detect) but unplug is a no-no...
