Assuming that you can't find a used E45 battery, you could probably replace
the entire system with a used 170 on e-bay for less.  Be sure that you have
the atttachability.  The M170 was limited in attachability.

Pop the door open in the middle of the rack the cpu is in. If I remember
correctly it's on the right side. While the battery may be a standard
battery, it does have a circuit card attached the among other things is
giving you your change me message. If that card is not reset somehow then
the messages won't go away.
