Correct. "The Market" has long been crying that "open standards" are
what is wanted. IBM is trying to put themselves on that side of the
aisle. I'm sure there will be people who point out that Microsoft
products are proprietary. So this is posturing.

But I wouldn't get too concerned over what guys are saying here. You'll
notice that the same guys who will post "Bye Bye OS/400" at this
announcement are the ones who would have said exactly the same thing if
Z had said IBM's strategy was to go proprietary ("as soon as IBM says
it's strategic, it's dead").

There are people who don't look at what happens, they just twist every
bit of news to try to match it with the view they already have.
