Since some backups seem to run fine, you probably think the tape drive
hardware is A-Ok, but you might restore something just to check that.

WRKPRB to see if there is an earlier hit on the WRKCFGSTS TAP01 that might be
more illuminating than the one you shared that referenced some earlier & when
you do DSPOBJD be sure to get type *DEVD
