To All,

I seem to have created a furore with this request. A number of IBMers
have contacted me and they are doing their best to assist me with
replacing the missing CD. However, I wish to clear up a couple of points.

Point 1:
--------
I am not dissatisfied with IBM over this. I understand that 440 is out of
support and that getting a replacement for the missing CD is pushing it a
bit. Although IBM shipped me an incorrect/missing CD, I should have paid
more attention to what was delivered when I received the original order.
I will quite happily berate IBM when I think they deserve it but in case
they don't. As one might expect, I have checked my 450 order VERY
carefully :)

I stated IBM were "unwilling" in my original request because that's how I
interpreted what my VAR told me, who got it from their IBM contact, who
got it from Software Manufacturing. It came across as "wouldn't" rather
than "couldn't". I guess the original message lost something on the way
or I completely misunderstood because I have received a very concise
explanation from Sam McCluskey, the Product Manager for iSeries and AS/400
- A/NZ, who has explained that they simply do not have master copies of
440 anymore and thus are not able to burn a replacement CD.

Point 2:
--------
Although I was positive I had ordered PASE with my original Partner In
Development software order, and my search for it resulted in becoming
aware of the incorrect/missing CD, it appears that I did not, in fact,
order PASE for 440. I assumed PASE was on the missing CD but everyone is
telling me that PASE would be on a separate CD which I certainly do not
have. I do have PASE for 450 and expect it for 510. Since I did not
order PASE for 440 I do not expect IBM to provide a copy at this late
stage (although if they can manage to do so I will be truly grateful).

Investigation of the CD contents would indicate that the missing CD should
actually contain the first part of the BOSS. Being missing makes it very
hard to use those CDs to reinstall which is why I am trying to locate a
replacement.

I will let you know the result of IBM's efforts in this regard.

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
