Antonio,

You wrote "Well, now I'm in a dead-end. Don't know how to go in any
direction..."

You did the right thing... which is take 3 steps backwards and punt...;-)

Don't know a thing about DLFM.

But are these messages are showing up on the Command Entry display, or
where?
| TCP1A0F : DLFM Server starting
|
| Wait for DLFM Server jobs to Start
| Unable to Start DFLM Server

Try executing STRTCPSVR *DLFM from the Command Entry display, and then press
F10 to see if there are any lower-level messages that indicate the problem.
Also try placing the cursor on the "Unable to Start DLFM Server" and press
the HELP key. The second level message may tell you what's happening, but
if not, post it here... If you can't get any additional info, in either of
these ways, then you're SOL ("Business French" for poop-out-of-luck...;-).

Maybe someone else who knows this stuff could help further...

jt

| Subject: Again DLFM Server start up problem
|
|
| One week ago I posted the following problem:
| Sorry for this lengthy message, but I'm DEAD STOP !
| ------------------------------------------------------------------
| -------------------------------------------
|
| Hi, I've started to use DLFM to deal with links to picture fields, etc
| for a new app.
| I'm following steps as detailed in redbook SG24-5409-00
|
| After setting up my RDB, INZDLFM, add Prefixes, add Host DB, etc, I come
| to "Start TCP Server *DLFM".
| It runs for some time, and at the end I get following messages...
|
| TCP1A0F : DLFM Server starting
|
| Wait for DLFM Server jobs to Start
| Unable to Start DFLM Server
|
| but then I go to QSYSWRK Subsystem: the redbook mentions there should be
|
| (p.164) 8 jobs running (with names starting with "QZDFM...") but I only
| get 7 up and running. The missing one is "QZDFMCHD"...
|
| Any one knows why this job did not start as the rest did?
| 7 out of 8 is the reason for message "Unable to start DFLM Server" ?
| ------------------------------------------------------------------
| -------------------------------------------
|
| Got two answers:
|
| One of them suggested to look at QZDFMCHD joblog (it's the missing
| job!); try to change the joblog, or even look DSPLOG or the other 7 jobs
| joblogs...
| The other one, suggested 3 APARs...
|
| Well, for the first one, there is no joblog. All other 7 jobs use
| JOBD(QDFTJOBD) so I changed it to LOG(4 00 *SECLVL) but still no
| joblog for the missing one... I looked in DSPLOG, and I see 7 jobs
| starting and then ending, which (I guess) just start the 7 ones that
| keep alive. But not 8 of them.
| Still, got joblogs for all of them, and no clues !
| More strange yet, if I ENDTCPSVR *DLFM, it takes a while... says "Server
| terminated"... but the 7 jobs are still up !
| I can do ENDTCPSVR once or several more times... and no protest, it
| takes some time and end saying "Server terminated"... !!! but 7 jobs
| still up !
| I guess it should either really terminate the 7 jobs, so I could not say
| ENDTCPSVR again and again... or else say, I cannot terminate it for some
| reason, or not?
| If I don't kill myself the 7 jobs and try to STRTCPSVR *DLFM again, I
| get "Server started" , but it is NOT true, since I can see it is stopped
| thru Ops.N...
| Even trying to start it thru Ops.N. won't start it. Right clicking on it
| I just get same 7 server jobs as doing it manually, no matter how many
| times I try it.
| Only if I "do" kill the 7 jobs myself, and then try the STRTCPSVR
| again, then I DO get again the messages
|
| TCP1A0F : DLFM Server starting
|
| Wait for DLFM Server jobs to Start
| Unable to Start DFLM Server
|
| but still server appears as stopped under Ops.N.
|
| Anyway, if I try to insert a record in the table (where it should be)
| with SQL, I get error SQL0357 saying file server for datalinks is not
| available...
|
| Well, now I'm in a dead-end. Don't know how to go in any direction...
