Ed, I worked at a manufacturing company that had a backup generator. We had a UPS in place that would takeover for the time it took for the generator to get up and going. Of course only the things on that UPS had no problems when the power switched. Any terminal that was signed on would vary itself off and then would have to be reset. The company would switch to generator backup at peak demand times when the weather was extremely hot or extremely cold. The comapny was able to negotiate better power rates by agreeing to this arrangment. The only problem we actually had was the one I mentioned about things getting varies off.
