WOW...!

You da MAN...! You da MAN...!

(I figured somebody out there was doing these kinds of things.)

I've only followed this thread loosely, but I had the understanding that BCC
(or perhaps some other 3rd party) offered tape drives with FULL parallel
saves.. like 3 or 4 years ago... I haven't looked into this lately,
however.

Also, I haven't followed developments in SAN closely (don't see much
value-add for iSeries)... But I did see where mainframe SHARK has added, or
will have very shortly, high-speed disk-copy (high-speed disk-mirroring?)
for backup purposes. Don't know if or how that translates to iSeries. I
understand SHARK is, or soon will be, available for iSeries, but probably
gonna cost out pretty high...

Finally, Rob... I thought I saw something about high-speed fiber-connect up
to xxx meters (but I think less than the 1/2 mile distance recommended to
avoid tornados).

: We've taken the tack that taking our Domino servers down to due a
: backup is
: a good test of our clustering. For explanation - we have two Domino 400's
: involved here. Every night we drop the one and it's 8 partitions of
: Domino. Then Domino clustering automatically routes them over to
: the other
: 400 and it's 8 partitions. Based on these 'tests' we've found
: some grounds
: for improvement, and have acted upon them. Nope, we'll keep bringing them
: down.
:
: Although for DR purposes, there is some pressure to move the backup 400
: more than 2 feet from the primary. And last week was the first
: week we ran
: with all of our 400's in one room.

: A neat thing about BRMS is that it can use the "Incremental backup
: forever" architecture. A relational database keeps track of all the
: changes and helps to keep the recovery tapes organized. The process
: reduces both backup times and recovery times.
:
: This is in contrast to the "Grandfather, Father, Son" strategy, where
: recovery is the latest full backup plus the latest incremental saves.
: It's a major change in backup/recovery concepts.
:
: Doesn't TSM use BRMS to perform AS/400 backups? It (BRMS) is the best
: way to backup Domino database without taking down Domino!

: |What I am hoping for is a way to use both 3590's simultaneously, in
: |restricted state, to do our saves. Is there a way to do this? We are
: |running V5R1. We have BRMS but haven't gotten around to using it.
: |
: |If BRMS is the magic pill then how do we go about implementing that?
: RTFM
: |is acceptable, if you believe that, and point to good links. I've
: heard
: |that BRMS, under V5R1, is a cinch to get working. Much different than
: |previous releases.
