Applying PTFs perm, whether the MF or the SF/SI ones does clean up some space. However, be aware that if you ever need to remove a PTF, it's almost impossible when they're applied perm. If you want to remove a PTF, you've got to be able to revert to the previous level of the modules, so a backup has to be on disk.
