Applying PTFs *TEMP is simply a matter of IBM renaming objects.  So you have
both original objects and new versions taking up space.  This being so the
PTFs can be backed out by renaming the objects back.  The space can be
significant, if *TEMP PTFs accumulate over time (especially if you don't
have much DASD to begin with).

Applying *PERM deletes the obsoleted objects.
