I appreciate your concern for the lack of available resources for
application development.

My point is that this is not a CFINT issue, it is a pricing issue. If IBM
needs to receive a certain amount of revenue to justify marketing the
iSeries, it doesn't matter if they use a CPW interactive governor or if
they manufacture dual CPU systems with variant degrees of power for 5250
and non 5250 data streams.

No matter what the mechanism, buyers will need to pay the same price for
the same amount of value from IBM for IBM to continue to supply the
product. Otherwise, why should IBM continue to sell?

Complaining that this is all a problem of IBM using the CFINT governor is,
pardon the expression, silly. People who buy the machine with the governor
select a model rated for the CPW they are allowed to use. If it is not
enough, they should buy a bigger model. Why did they buy a model rated
lower than their needs? If it were a hardware limit rather than the CPW
governor, wouldn't we be able to see this as the buyer's fault, not the
sellers? If they cannot justify the cost of the bigger model, they should
look to a non-iSeries solution.

I am not saying that as a arrogant, "Like it or leave it." thing. Just a
matter of practicality. If IBM could be forced to sell their boxes at the
prices the buyers would like, it would probably just lead to the division
being unprofitable and thus all iSeries customers would need to look to
different solutions.

To address your concerns over using modern programming techniques, there
are a significant number of PC based development systems that allow
developers to create all forms of complex data models and access data from
the iSeries. iSeries developers really have every option open to them that
developers for other servers do, in addition to the 5250 data stream
options.
