Interactive processing as we know it on the AS/400 doesn't exist on an NT server. Who hooks up a bunch of workstations (real or virtual) to an NT server? If you're going to an Intel platform you've switched to an applications architecture where interactive is irrelevant, and it's possibly an architecture you can run on an iSeries with no Interactive Feature. I'm not defending Interactive Feature pricing by any means -- my opinions on the matter have been pretty clear. It is, however, frustrating when folks responsible for choosing technology don't know the differences between the platforms. I've worked with people who only care if it's GUI. They wouldn't know if it was fat-client, n-tier, or web-enabled, and wouldn't know the layered product and administrative costs of each. -Jim James P.
