I'd be amazed to learn you can't do IP over an async connection!!!!

In this case, though, I would configure the modem for SDLC, and configure
LU6.2 (APPC) connection between the systems. Of course, that assumes that
you'll be contacting the remote system directly, that it will have a modem
waiting for your call, and that it's been configured appropriately. Then
your DDM request will be quite easy.

You've not provided any information about how you intend to make your
connection (to the other system or to an ISP or whatever), and without that
piece, it's hard to carve out a solution.

Subject: Asynch autodial out

Hi all,
     I've had a nose through the archive, there was a thread 16 months
ago on this
subject, but it didn't have a particularly good match for my problem ...

     a) I have an asynchronous modem attached to a V.24 port on my
AS/400;
     b) I want to use it to automatically transfer a (small) file to a
remote AS/400;
     c) I guess I need to configure an Asynch Line, Controller and Device
for it;
     d) I would like to be able to use a DDM file, or perhaps FTP to do
the transfer, as
         I plan to use a CL program to control the process (RPG is not an
option).

Can someone point me in the right direction for the config and most
appropriate transfer
technique ? I've also had a look in the manuals and redbooks ... no luck.

Kind Regards,

Jeff Bull
