John,

I just received a call from the author of that story, in response to my
feedback. They seem to truly appreciate hearing from us, and I'm told that
an additional iSeries article (about HA and iSeries in Las Vegas) is due out
in a few weeks. Thanks for the link to this article.

Subject: Server Consolidation - 255 Wintel's to 5 iSeries

This is the good news and the bad news.

>Jacobs estimates the E-mail consolidation project will save ABN Amro 20%
on its hardware costs. He also expects >other savings. "I don't have 450
copies of Notes, 250 copies of NT, or 200 virus patches, or the staff
needed to do >it all," he says. And because only one server is needed as a
backup for up to three other servers, "we don't have >to buy as much server
capacity."

I don't think Lotus is happy about losing Notes Clients.

BTW, Don't forget to click on the link that says "Write to the Editors".

Take ABN Amro U.S.A. The Chicago bank first began widescale use of E-mail
in the late 1990s. Various departments began installing their own systems,
and within a few years, there was a mix of some 255 Compaq,
Hewlett-Packard, and IBM Wintel servers.........

.............Since consolidation started, the bank has installed five
iSeries servers. This week, it will begin using in its Troy, Mich., office
a sixth iSeries--an 830--which is the latest version of the iSeries server.
The iSeries servers require little baby-sitting, Jacobs says.
