This is the good news and the bad news. >Jacobs estimates the E-mail consolidation project will save ABN Amro 20% on its hardware costs. He also expects >other savings. "I don't have 450 copies of Notes, 250 copies of NT, or 200 virus patches, or the staff needed to do >it all," he says. And because only one server is needed as a backup for up to three other servers, "we don't have >to buy as much server capacity." I don't think Lotus is happy about losing Notes Clients. BTW, Don't forget to click on the link that says "Write to the Editors". http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20011011S0010 Take ABN Amro U.S.A. The Chicago bank first began widescale use of E-mail in the late 1990s. Various departments began installing their own systems, and within a few years, there was a mix of some 255 Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM Wintel servers......... .............Since consolidation started, the bank has installed five iSeries servers. This week, it will begin using in its Troy, Mich., office a sixth iSeries--an 830--which is the latest version of the iSeries server. The iSeries servers require little baby-sitting, Jacobs says.
