I agree totally. But here's an example issue I ran into a while back... I 
needed to write a sockets server and the corresponding client. The problem: How 
to test? While developing one, you need the other working properly before you 
can test with confidence. With the iCTC APIs, I could throw together basic 
client code in less than an hour in CL. I have command shells for each of the 
APIs and that made it almost trivial; no need even to code specific CALL/parm 
structures. For what I was doing, I couldn't use them for final production 
code; but it drastically reduced my development cycle.

Scott's site is great as a tutorial. The iCTC APIs are a great tool set. No 
conflict and complementary value.
