You might want to
read  http://www.ignite400.org/news/news2001091503.htm   the way you buy
PDM (ADTS
) and the compilers has changed.

Instead of just query look at  DB2 Query Manager and SQL Development Kit
for iSeries.

For software subscription, if it lapsed on the machine there is a plenty
you have to pay.

I would not say don't do it. I would just make sure you know what it is
going to cost before you do it. I would stay in the P05 group. I think
170's can no longer be upgraded after the end of the year. But you do most
of it yourself anyway, disk drives and memory.

And do not forget hardware maintenance.
