RE: Wanted: Used AS/400-170 - DON'T DO IT! HERE'S WHY!!

Watch out for these - they typically come with v4r3 only and no licensed
programs.  So... you can log on, but you won't be able to do anything
useful.  To get those (Query, RPG, PDM, etc) you first have to upgrade to
v4r5.  That costs $600 on a P05 for the 'software subscription'.  Then, each
language costs $1200.  I forget what Query costs, but it's probably in the
ball park.  You're looking at many thousands of $$ to get the thing fired
up.  And that's if you buy a P05.  If you get a bigger box, like an older
model 500 in a P20 class, you're looking at BIG money.

You'd be better off using a timesharing service like
http://www.timeshare400.com .
