I've compared simple Java, Net.Data, and CGI programs on my server. It's a small 170-2290. It doesn't have the speed or cache of the 270-2252 used in the benchmarks. But it yields comparable results. Even on an underpowered machine like mine, simple Java servlets are indeed faster than Net.Data and CGI... until you add a database / data processing requirement to the mix. Then the analysis gets more interesting! Of course, the only way to tell for sure is to look at the source code for the benchmarks. That's why so many of my statements ended with "?" > A second comparison involving large volume of data would be > nice, but I think belongs in a separate table. Agreed.
