I'm a frayed knot. The disk-initialise does not erase the expired system password, I tried this on another old system I attempted to rebuild for a client some time ago. The problem shows itself when you IPL and an expired system password is found - you can't get past it without a new disk or system password. I had an old system with a failed CPU, we replaced the CPU with one from another scrapped system, of course a new serial number came across with the 'new' CPU, and IBM wouldn't even recognise this AS/400 as ours, despite our valid licence agreement. Having tried to approach IBM from various angles to get round the problem, we eventually decided to scrap that system too. IBM's attitude is killing the AS/400 second-user market - they will NOT issue new system passwords for old systems. Is the system in working order now and you just thought you were missing the MULIC? If so you can probably keep the system working "indefinately" by keeping it plugged into a power source and scheduling an IPL to occur one a week or whatever, then have it power back down by itself. I think you may be able to go close to a month -- I don't know the exact timing Doug _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l. _____________________________________________________________________ This message has been checked for all known viruses by Star Internet delivered through the MessageLabs Virus Scanning Service.
