If I can equate S36 code to DOS , in terms of how old it is, they would have
upgraded long ago (and perhaps more expensively). We actually have had a
fairly clear path for upgrading, both app and hardware.
Also, still haven't met a college kid who had a clue how to write a "real"
application. (my apologies to those of you who can).
But I have heard those exact same words from a manager recently.  When it
comes to application proposals, when given a true opportunity to compare
iSeries vs other, I've usually won with the iSeries.
