Portal, Good questions. As to why I've gone in separation, I think Leif's quote from C.S. Lewis says it well. With NO due modesty, I was quoted in News/400 at the begining of the OSS development known as "Project 1" (something like) "It will take more than an initial wave of enthusiasm to complete". There was an article in ComputerWorld today about creating successful alliances. I hope to have time to read it later. My experience has been that collaboration requires a loosening of "psychological boundaries". It requires a point of view that starts with ICBW. However, it is requires a delicate balance. If the boundaries are loosened too quick, they invariably snap back and, in fact, become quite rigid. The partners start viewing each other as having alterior motives and hidden agendas. Which obviously destroys the ability to collaborate. (I don't know if the article addresses this or not.) Collaboration is not unlike a marriage, except it requires three to do properly. People can be like magnetics: sometimes opposites attract, sometimes they repel. I learned an awful lot from the experience working on www.i-a-i-c.org. I heard from my youner Sister that the site is not open only to members. This was necessary to keep me from accessing the site, probably because I asked to get a copy of it to start a new one. However, the site owners also keep the general public from viewing the site. Maybe because it's under construction, as we had outlined. Maybe because psychological boundaries have become very rigid. Maybe both. All I know, from looking at the referers page, was that there were people linking from the strangest places. Mostly west-coast types. One was from a place called XO.com and appeared to be from a private e-mail, since I could not click on the link. They probably saw the site as a huge comedy... Whatever... But one never knows the effect of closing off opportunities to open a lines of communication. It's not easy to see the effects of missing out on a potential opportunity. IBM can't put a monetary value on how many missed sales are lost by not marketing the 400, as I wrote them a while back. So... I'm preparing to develop THE MOST AMAZING WEBSITE EVER...! Little bits will dribble out over time, and as it appears to be more likely to happen. Might be days, weeks, or a month or two. Any longer, might end up just being a waste of time. I'm NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for volunteers, because I've never seen one yet...;-) Phil Grosowitz said, back last January on IGNITe, that volunteers don't volunteer to be voluteers. (Something like that...;-) Well, I've just about given up asking for any. But the main reason I'm flying solo, temporarily, is that it seems the work needs to progress a while, before it's can come far enough along for people to see what is actually possible. I'm not particular in favor of a lot of iNation websites, but the ones I've seen ain't doin' the job properly. Portal, thanks for the questions...! I'm going back to lurking mode, for a while. To be honest, I have no idea of anything going on between Ms. KSS and Mr. LVG, jr. I think they're unrelated events, but I never saw the article referred to on an earlier post, which maybe says more about it, so ICBW. jJt (aka "Man of many names, but not much of a face" ROFLMAO... Whew...!) (PS No offense intended about lurking, and not answering posts. Sometimes it's a time good to "talk", and sometimes it's a good time to "listen". I think I've been "talking" too much, lately... YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS WEBSITE... if it happens...;-) -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of Portal39@aol.com Sent: Monday, July 23, 2001 11:18 AM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Resignation from International Alliance of iNation Citizens Ah why have you gone in seperation from all these organizations and what is expected from the Stevenson & Gerstner interactions?? But at the same time, that isn't as simple as what it sounds. There were multiple reasons why I said I'm "not at liberty". But what I should have said, in my previous e-mail was the following: "I received an invitiation, from Ms. Kimberly S. Stevenson, to 'chat' on the phone next week. I'll believe it when I see it, but I have no reason to doubt her. She's followed through on things she said she would in the "past" Ms Stevenson is doing what for you? Plus, we're dealing with IBM, one of the most private corporations in the world, as far as how they work internally. Plus, when I first wrote Mr. Gerstner last September, Why are U writing to Gerstner? Try to look at it from my point of view, Leif... A year ago this time, I'd just started lurking on the various Internet forums and listservs. This past year, I've been writing you all, frequently, and writing some of the top executives in IBM. To say I'm out-of-my-league here, well... that's a hilarious understatement... I'M REAL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THIS SITUATION I'M IN... But I do it anyway, because I firmly believe it's my duty.... What do you mean: "not at liberty" ? Is the scheming going on behind the scenes? iNation can only succeed if its citizens are informed rather than being manipulated. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
