I was one of the guys that hated the idea of breaking up Ma Bell. Bell Labs was a real hero to me, with all the technologies they came up with. But I have to admit that I feel better about that market now. It isn't that I think we'd all be using rotary dial phones still, but I do feel that competition in the market is useful for speeding up innovation. I think the Internet is a big proof of that pudding. After all, how many backbone providers would we have if it weren't for that breakup? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Dow" <pcdow@yahoo.com> To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> Sent: Thursday, July 19, 2001 5:01 PM Subject: Re: no Java in XP Windows > Hi John, > > "a solution that addresses the problem" -- any suggestions?
